55 years since Deenadayalji said goodbye. His legendary struggles, efforts to give a new face to the Indian political scene… a personality that any party member should know and study…. For politicians, that life is an encyclopedia. Followers of national politics should remember Deen Dayalji whenever he holds office.
Atalji's and Modiji's governments have adopted the guideline of "Ekatma Manava Vadam" put forward by him as the basic document of their policies. It was through his works that people began to hear the policy of "Antyodaya".
What did he achieve for the party in that victory journey without the fame?
In the 1967 Lok Sabha elections, the party became the second largest party in the country after the Congress in terms of total vote share of the Jana Sangh. Third largest party in Lok Sabha. The independent party came second after the ruling Congress. After that Jan Sangh won 35 seats. Maharathars like Atalji, Balraj Madhok, Kanwarlal Gupta, ML Sondhi, Hukum Chand Kachwai etc. in the Lok Sabha.
The peculiarity of that time must be remembered when the Jana Sangh secured the second position in the total vote share at the national level. The influence of the Congress, which led the umbrella of the freedom struggle, did not suffer much. The influence of the Nehru family also prevailed. His daughter and Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi led that election campaign for the Congress. At that time, joint Vidhyak Dal governments came into existence in many states with the participation of the Jana Sangh. In some places with the Jana Sangh in the CPI coalition cabinet.
His daily routine was Deendayal style popularly known as Gandhian style.
Workers used to say that Deen Dayalji was inside if they saw an old shoe stitched outside the party offices. Seeing the poor condition of the shoes, an activist took pity on him and offered to buy him a new pair of shoes. Deen Dayalji's witty reply to that is noteworthy: "Are you donating me a pair of sandals, run away and get some ladoo, everyone can eat".
Deenadayalji once left the party office to cut his hair and returned very soon. Cropping quality is very poor. Ready to answer the worker's question: "There is a lot of traffic in the barber shop. When he gets out and looks for another shop, there he is sitting in an alley, a barber, a big stone instead of a chair. The mirror should be held by the customer himself against his face. The charge is only one-third of the store charge. An income for that poor man. My case was soon over. And I was able to understand the economics of those living at that standard by asking them in person.” It is important here that this was the time when he was preparing the "Ekatma Manava Vadam".
Deenadayalji had to assume the position of party president in a special situation at the historic Jana Sangh National Conference held in Kozhikode in December 1967. After that, on the 41st day, his dead body was found on the Mughalsarai railway track, murdered by the anti-terrorist forces. Deenadayalji's room at Alakapuri Hotel the day after the Kozhikode conference. The correspondent of "The Hindu" is also present in the room. He came with a draft of the interview given to the newspaper, for Deenadayalji's approval. At that time Dobi came with the washed clothes. Dobi was received by the National President of India's second most powerful political party by saying "Are Bhai Byto Na". Hearing the news of Deenadayalji's death, Dobi cried saying this.
Hostel life during college education. The boy, who lost his parents in infancy, was brought up by his uncle, a railway gateman. Naturally, poverty increases. Because of that, during the hostel life, the food was cooked by oneself. Once Deen Dayalji came back after buying vegetables from the market and counted the change and found that he had mistakenly given an unclaimed coin to the greengrocer. Guilt tormented him. He returned to the market that evening. If you are a vegetable person, you are in a hurry to pack up everything and go home as soon as the night starts. He doesn't want to waste time rummaging through his wallet for that little coin. But Deenadayalji stood firm. Deen Dayalji returned to the hostel after buying the untaken coin and replacing it with a good one.
Once a group event in Nagpur. Elected officials of Parivar organizations should also participate in it. Not many of those appointed from Uttar Pradesh. Deenadayalji asked the leader of the state for the reason and he said that the decision was taken because the elections were near and many people had to work from there. "Election is not bigger than Sangh matter" was the reply.
Once Dwitiya Sarsanghachalak Parama Pujaniya Guruji and Deenadayalji were traveling in the same train. Guruji in first class. Deenadayalji in third class. Every now and then he would meet Guruji to discuss a matter. When the train stopped at a station, he reached Guruji's compartment. After the discussion, he returned to his own class. Next he invented the ticket examiner. First class value of the distance traveled near Guruji was calculated and given to him. When I asked if I wanted a receipt, the reply was 'of course'.
Deenadayalji, who was associated with the political Swayamsevak Sangh from his college days and became an active activist, decided to devote his life to the Sangh. Passing his matriculation to BT (equivalent to today's B.D.) examinations with first rank and a gold medal, he was offered an appointment as a teacher in a government-run school by the king of his native Mathura region, but he kindly declined and worked as a full-time campaigner for the Sangh. When he was working as the Sahaprant Pracharak of Uttar Pradesh, he met the founder of the Jan Sangh, Dr. Assigned to work with Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. Even while holding the national duties of the Jana Sangh, he remained a staunch Swayamsevak. Khaki trousers were in the box to branch out wherever they went. Brilliant writer, economic and social science expert, unique organizer, etc., his greatness is not limited to adjectives! He wrote the play "Shankaracharya" in one night.
