A self- reliant Bharat standing on its own feet through "Make in India" was the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Now part of this selfless India, INS Vikrant, a fully Indian built aircraft carrier, is an incredible dream come true. Because it is unbelievable that a country like India built an aircraft carrier at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, the size of 333 blue whales and 45,000 tonnes gross weight. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today dedicated this warrior of the sea to the nation.
INS Vikrant's motto is borrowed from the Rigveda. "Jayema Sam Yudhi Spradha". It means: "I will defeat those who come to fight me". (This was also the motto of India's first aircraft carrier, the old Vikrant). That's how long it is. There are 684 stairs inside. INS Vikrant is India's largest self-built warship.
INS Vikrant, the pride of the country, became a part of the Indian Navy after the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi dedicated it to the country. With this, India is becoming one of the six countries to build its own aircraft carrier indigenously. Kerala, which is a part of the country, can also be proud of this. Cochin Shipyard is the first shipyard in the country to build an aircraft carrier. The ship is indigenously designed and built by L&T. Eight diesel generators of 3 MW each are used for power generation at Vikrant. 3000 km long electric cables are used inside the ship.
A centralized control system has been set up by BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electric Limited), a public sector undertaking. The duty of the ships control center is to steer the ship in the right direction. The hangar has the facility to take off and land aircraft and to store fighter jets and helicopters landing on the aircraft carrier. It also has a turn table to rotate the aircraft 360 degrees.
There is a huge kitchen and a small super specialty hospital inside. The main control center of the ship is the center bridge. The bridge is visible up to 180 degrees. The Commanding Officer and the Executive Officer are here. It has radars, electronic display board and gyro compass for course determination. The flight deck is also important for fighter jets to take off. More than 2,000 people from Cochin Shipyard and 12,000 people from various industries participated in the construction of Vikrant.
