The fact is that Jawaharlal Nehru was not actually a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. Propaganda to the contrary is a fabrication of false history. Mahatma Gandhi believed in truth and non-violence. Gandhiji had deep faith in Ramayana and Bhagwat Gita. Gandhi has unequivocally stated many times that the Bhagavad Gita is his guiding book. Gandhi had said that he was a Sanatana Hindu and that all religions of the world had a place in his Hindu religion. Gandhi also explained that Charka is a powerful weapon for India to gain independence.
However, Nehru believed in Eurocentrism. He therefore claimed to be a non-religious person. An admirer of Soviet socialism, Nehru naturally had no faith in Gandhi's Charka-based economics.
Gandhiji, who was an Indian by birth, strongly criticized Eurocentrism. Gandhi also believed that Eurocentrism would destroy the world. Gandhi explained this in the book 'Hind Swaraj'. Gandhi also believed that socialism achieved through violence would do more harm than good. He had said that politics without religion was fatal and it was one of the seven sins he had discovered.
Nehru, who was an admirer of Eurocentrism, and Gandhi, who rejected Eurocentrism, traveled in two directions. Nehru, who was secular, and Gandhi, who was a Sanatana Hindu, did not get along. The difference between Gandhi, who believed that truth and non-violence were paramount, and Nehru, who believed that socialism should be achieved through armed struggle, was evident.
They both knew this. "I do not know that you still believe in non-violence," Gandhi informed Nehru in a letter dated 4/1/1928. Nehru also informed Gandhi in a letter dated 11/1/1928 that he was "irreligious and did not believe in Khadi". In a letter to Nehru on 17/1/1928, Gandhiji also revealed that "the disunity between us is intense and he sees no possibility of reconciliation". Then Gandhiji lamented that he had lost an honest friend and a brave friend.
These being the facts, it cannot be said that describing Nehru as Gandhiji's heir and Gandhiji's heir has gone too far. There is no doubt that Nehru was the first of the great men who used Gandhi ji thoroughly without any faith in him.
