A study report by SBI has found that as a result of the Narendra Modi government's farmer welfare schemes, the income of farmers in the country has increased tremendously. The study also says that the income of cash crop farmers has increased significantly compared to other farmers. The report points out that the income of cash crop growers in some states has doubled or more since 2018. It is clear from the study that as a result of central government policies, structural reforms are taking place in the agricultural sector and agriculture has moved towards diversification to a large extent. It is important to note that this is not the statement of any ruler or government agency. SBI, the country's largest bank, has found that the income of farmers has increased in the financial year 2017-18 and in the financial year 2021-2022. For example, the SBI report points out that the income of soybean farmers in Maharashtra and cotton farmers in Karnataka has doubled during this period. While the central government is claiming that the income of farmers has doubled in the last few years, the study conducted by SBI has confirmed this through preliminary data collection from various states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed Rs 21,000 crore from the Kisan Samman Nidhi last May. This is the 11th time that this assistance is given to farmers. 80 crore farmers in the country have benefited from this. The Modi government, which has been in power for eight years, has already implemented many schemes to make farmers self-sufficient. The farm friendly schemes of the government are really empowering the farmers. The last aid from the Kisan Samman Nidhi was given on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the government. On this occasion, the Prime Minister also interacted with the farmers of the country through online. Narendra Modi government has done things for the farmers which no previous government could do. The government has formulated several schemes to increase agricultural production, increase the income of farmers and ensure their welfare. In the first budget presented after coming to power in 2014, the Modi government allocated twice as much money to the agriculture sector as the previous government. In all budgets presented thereafter, increased amounts have been allocated for farmer welfare.
With the slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan" in mind, the Modi government brought three agricultural laws for the comprehensive development of the country's farmers. But the wealthy section of the farmers came forward with opposition as they realized that this would backfire on them. A revolutionary situation has been created to sell agricultural produce produced by ordinary farmers anywhere in the country. But this was not acceptable to the middlemen who had been exploiting the poor farmers for decades. The rich lobby of farmers involved in other businesses within the country and outside the country have been opposing the new agricultural laws brought by the Modi government by pouring in huge amounts of money and conniving with some anti-national forces. Later, the farmers' organizations themselves assessed that the withdrawal of this law by the government in view of security interest etc. was a big setback. The rift in the protesting farmers' organizations became stronger and they turned into two slums and started fighting each other. The vested interests of some farmers' organizations came out as they contested the elections in Punjab. Even though the agricultural laws had to be withdrawn, the Modi government was not ready to back down from the welfare of farmers. Many things have been implemented in agriculture and allied sectors. This mission is ongoing. The result of all this is that the income of the farmers has increased.
