Six political parties - Congress, CPM, NCP, Aam Aadmi, Trinamool and TRS - cheated a woman from one of the weakest sections of the tribal community to become President for the first time in India's 75-year history of independence. On Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party publicly announced that it would not support Draupadi Murmu. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, made everyone laugh: "We respect Draupadi Murmu. But we will give our vote to Yashwant Sinha." The most ridiculous of these is Mamata Banerjee. Mamata herself announced Yashwant Sinha as the presidential candidate by calling a meeting of the opposition parties. Congress leader Ajoy Kumar also exploded a bombshell. Ajoy Kumar's statement was that Draupadi Murmu represents the ideology of evil. There was widespread protest against this in India. NCP leader Sharat Pawar and TRS leader Chandrasekhara Rao have publicly announced their support to Yashwant Sinha. But these parties cannot be closed in the cages of any ideal. These are parties that are often driven by their own survival and power. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soran had earlier announced his support for Murmu. This did not anger the Congress at all. Because Congress is JMM's allies in Jharkhand cabinet. But since JMM is a party that stands for the backward classes, it is enough for JMM to support Draupadi Murmu.
India's constitutional architect Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's grandson made a small effort. He requested Yashwant Sinha to withdraw from contesting the presidential election. Prakash Ambedkar advises Yashwant Sinha to withdraw from the election at a historic moment when all Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes members have decided to vote for Draupadi Murmu, forgetting party differences.
Only NCP, Congress, CPM, Aam Aadmi and TRS have announced their support for Draupadi Murmu. Mamata could support Draupadi Murmu only indirectly.
