Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoles the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The Prime Minister announced a day of mourning in India on July 8 to commemorate Shinzo's sudden demise. Modi said he remembered his sacrifice for his country and shared his grief with the people of Japan.
The Prime Minister said that he met Shinzo Abe during his last visit to Japan and was able to discuss many issues with him. He was always wise and insightful about the country," Modi said on Twitter. The Prime Minister expressed sadness and said that he did not think that this would be our last meeting. Apart from the Prime Minister, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his condolences. Rajnath Sim said that India has lost a good friend today.
Shinzo Abe died while undergoing treatment after being shot in the Nara region of western Japan. It has been confirmed that Abe was shot by a former member of the Japanese Navy. He was identified as 41-year-old Tesuya Yamagami. The attack happened around 11:30 a.m. Japan time on Friday morning. Shinzo Abe, who served as Prime Minister of Japan from 2006-07 and 2021-20, is also the longest-serving Prime Minister in Japan's history.
