Chempil Arayan alias Chempil Anantha Padmanabhan Kankumaran was a brave fighter in the planned struggle where Veluthampi Dalava and Paliathachan were prepared to surround and attack the British army. Naval Commander of Travancore. A freedom fighter who forgot to remember Kerala. The country has not done justice to the memories of Kunkumaran, who was born on April 13, 1741 in Chembil near Vaikat in Kottayam district.
Chempil Arayan decided to strike against the British in the spirit of Veluthampi Dalava's call. On 29 December 1808, an army led by Chempil Aryan attacked Bolgatti Palace, the residence of Colin Macaulay, Resident of the East India Company. The army, which arrived through the lake in rowing boats, surrounded the palace under the leadership of Aryan in the morning and stormed into it. But Mecaulay could not be caught.
Vaikam Padmanabhapilla, accompanied by Alamkot Sarvadhikari Kunhikutty Pillai, Karumadi Gopalapilla, Kochu Shankarapililla and Paliyath Komiachan led the army led by Valiya Arayan who crossed into Fort Kochi without even being prepared to resist. The giant Aryan took out his anger by cutting down the seven- story silver lamp. Chempil Arayan was captured by the British Army after his escape from Mecaulay.
Although Arayan was spared the gallows after paying a fine, the British forces unleashed brutal torture on him. After constant beatings, the brave warrior left the country. The martyred Aryan's descendants were followed by the naval commanders of the Travancore dynasty.
The Bolgatti Palace attack was the energizing chapter of the freedom struggle. But till date no monument has come up in the name of Aryan in Chempil. Aryan's descendants also did not receive enough consideration from the democratic administration. Chempil Valiya Aryan Family Welfare Society submitted petitions demanding that December 29 be observed as Valiya Aryan Martyr's Day, but no action was taken.
The Thailamparam homestead of Chempil Big Arayan is in a village called Chemp, north of Vaikam. This is a house with the royal symbol of Travancore, Sankh Nalukett. The swords he used and the running boat are still kept here. The Samadhi Mandapam is also adjacent to the house. Ajith, who is the seventh generation of the great Arayan family, currently resides in the family home at Thailamparam in Vaikam.
